The Iona School - Nurturing mind, body and soul.

"Our highest endeavour must be to develop free human beings who can impart purpose and direction to their lives" Rudolf Steiner. The Iona School is a Steiner Waldorf School on Sneinton Dale in Nottingham for children aged between 3 1/2 to 12 years. (20 minutes cycle ride from West Bridgford) The children attend Kindergarten until they are around 6 years old and then move up to the main school.

The school was founded in 1985 by a group of teachers and parents who established The Iona School Association with the intention that this education should be available to all children regardless of race, religion or economic background.

At the Iona School we aim to give the children eternal values, self confidence, a love of learning, an ability to work with others, enduring practical skills, spiritual freedom and an open and tolerant attitude. We believe that education should be a continuing process, and our task is to stimulate and develop the faculties and skills which enable our pupils to learn….for life…from life….throughout life.

Quote from the Ofsted inspector" It was noted that "throughout the school, the strong philosophical emphasis on balancing academic learning and developing skills in the arts and practical activities is put into practice successfully. The school makes outstanding provision for pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and it is at the heart of the school's purpose. The emphasis on quiet reflection, tolerance of self and others, and creative development means that there is a great celebration of diversity and different ways of doing things."
